National Anthem

The Philippine National Anthem was composed by Julian Felipe, music teacher and composer.
He completed it o0n June 11, 1898. It was first played in public before a group of Filipino revolutionaries, including General Emilio Aguinaldo, by the brass band of San Francisco De Malabon during the declamation of Philippine independence in Kawit, Cavite on June 12, 1898. Philippine independence was granted by the United States of America on July 4, 1946, and subsequently, by an executive order, Former President Diosdado Macapagal change independence Day to June 12, the independence Day proclaimed after the Spanish rule.

The Anthem was wordless for over a year. In August 1899, however, Jose Palma, a young poet-soldier, wrote ''Filipinas'' in Spanish. It was first published in La Independence on September 3, 1899, and became the lyrics of the Philippine national anthem.
